This planter has about the most beautiful form I can imagine, with wide bowl rising gracefully from cylindrical body, making for a truly stunning silhouette. Glazed matte black, it bears a strong resemblance to Californian Architectural Pottery pieces from the 1950s and 1960s, and also a fair resemblance to some pieces designed by Ettore Sottsass for Bitossi, but I have not found its exact match. It is signed 683 Italy in yellow-orange on the bottom.
The planter is in excellent vintage condition, with a minor hairline crack on the base just below where it meets the bowl, some wear and discoloration to the bottom of the interior of the planter, and very light wear otherwise. Really a beautiful piece from top to bottom.
Measurements: 13" across at lip, 9 1/2" tall; 7 7/8" across at base.
