Such a lovely little book! Artist John Skeaping, whose childhood ambition was to become a horse jockey, takes the reader through a step-by-step process of capturing the majestic beauty of his subject, from standing through galloping, in a manner both direct and wonderfully poetic.
From the section Notes about Rhythm: "Some people have a sense of rhythm as some have a sense of humour. It is difficult to acquire a sense of rhythm, but it can be done if approached correctly. I can safely assume that most of you who are anxious to draw have a sense of rhythm which stimulates the wish to make drawings of the animal you love and appreciate."
Best of all are Skeaping's graceful diagrams and beautiful full fledged drawings, that make this act of rendering horses seem entirely effortless and rather magical. A great gift for the artist and horse lover alike!
