Tender Group of Four 1943 Handmade War Effort Red Dime Collection Bags

Regular price $24.00

Finding little things like these make me really happy; I might be inclined to frame them in a grid like this--or else to deliver valentine's treats in them! I am sure they were a WW2 effort, and I believe most likely a school effort, as it was common for school children to save and collect dimes to buy war bonds, with some wartime propaganda directly geared to school aged children encouraging them to do exactly that. (I'd think the "group 5" on the typed labels corresponded to section of the class or school, who would then turn these in at the end of the period designated on the labels.) I love the look of those labels, and how the red of each has become a bit different as they have aged, and the thread drawstrings on them, and just the very analog and aspirational  nature of the whole endeavor.

Bags measure 3 1/2" to 4" t x 2 3/4" to 2 7/8" w. Very good condition, no holes or issues, just one bag missing a label.
