There is something so satisfying to me about old handmade wooden boxes that close alone an angled edge like this. This one, with the lid held on by one simple nail, I am pretty certain dates to the late 1800s. It still bears some of its original red paint (which reads orange), as well as pencil marks all over! Much of that pencil appears to be scribbles, but I can at least make out "Millie" on one side, "Nicky" on the bottom, and a "Yo" on one short end--and there is definitely more to decipher! It is fairly beaten up all over, just the way I like it!
9 1/4" long x 2" tall and 2 1/8" wide. The lid is well attached but not super tight on the nail.
