1929 50th Birthday Love Token Mirror with Feet and Handwritten Message on the Underside

Regular price $250.00

I'll never walk away from a very specific homemade token of love if I can help it, and there is so much I love rolled up into this one, including just a small fragment of a mirror, which is of little practical use but gives the whole charming creation at least some presumption of function--while also making it feel very precious, as (earlier than this one) fragment mirrors certainly were. And clearly the Uncle William who made this had grand aspirations--opting to use Roman numerals to mark the year of his niece's birth (1879) and the year of the gift's making (1929). My favorite thing is the "L. Years" right below the mirror, marking her 50 year birthday (wonderfully awkwardly as "L. Years"). On reverse, his handwritten note to her inlaid, under glass:  "May this little gift remind you of your birthdays as they come and go. May health and happiness so attend you." What could be a sweeter or more tender embodiment of the want to make something special for someone special? Total love.

6" l x 3 1/4" w x 2" t and in great just about antique condition, 1929.
