Quite a thrill to find this one, which almost (but definitely not quite!) makes me wish alcohol was forbidden so that I might stealthily hide it inside this beautiful book-shaped flask! The exterior is leather with brass corners, the top of which twists off to reveal a spout, and the bottom of which slides off to reveal three nested brass shot glasses plus a funnel inside! The bottom of the shot glasses is marked DRGM (Deutsches Reichs Gebrauchmuster) Made in Germany, and the spine is stamped in gold: Made Expressly for Finchley--which I am almost certain refers to the Finchley Establishment Fifth Ave NY, a men's store specializing in fine hats, which was a destination in the 1920s and 30s. Books shaped flasks like this were quite a thing during prohibition (I'm including a photo of a woman with one in hand) and this is a very fine example in wonderful condition. The perfect gift for the reader-tippler!
6 7/16" t x 4 13/16" w x 1 7/16" d and in very very good condition, with all parts in excellent condition, the shot glasses nesting tight and snug, and the leather lightly worn, all to the good. A really fantastic example.
