I spotted this in a case alongside of a smaller sterling silver top hat and an antique tole painted top hat shaped coin bank, so seems likely it was once part of a top hat themed collection. I love the form of it, and the detail around the brim, and luxe feeling true gold color, and it seemed right for the season we approach tipping our hat to the new year. There is a small hole at the center of the top, the purpose of which I don't know; I've seen old top hat-shaped spittoons, but not sure this is that--certainly one could stick a feather or a sparkler or a sprig of mistletoe in it!
4 3/8" t x 5 7/8" w x 4 1/2" d. Good condition, great presence, rich patina. I have not tried to polish it (and personally would not; I think just right as it is.) I'm not great with metals (or woods for that matter) so am not entirely certain if brass (which is how the seller described it) or some other metal with a brass/gold finish but the color is rich like gold.
