I love this photograph very much, and will be very glad to keep it for myself. With these many dozens of little chicks looking like large puffs of freshly picked cotton inside their wide and low wood framed pen, the geometries of which, enhanced by the honeycomb patterns of the netting, I find hugely satisfying. And also evocative of bees in a hive, and babies crawling around in crib--a swarm of life and activity within a confined space that feels like a metaphor for all the world and life itself. With "Chas Weatherbee Chickens, Charlestown NH" handwritten on the back of the mat--there seems to have been a long line of Weatherbees from Charlestown, with a little more digging I am sure he can be definitely identified.
