Finely Dressed Young Woman at Piano, c. 1840s Folk Art Portrait in Original Burl Maple Frame

Regular price $165.00

Happily a lovely local shop owner friend messaged me when this lovely came in to her shop, knowing I would like it, and indeed I very much do. C. 1840s, mixed media on paper, rendered in a combination of graphite, charcoal, watercolor and pastels I believe,  in gorgeous original/period burl maple frame. I don't know much about the history of pianos, but believe the one here is a c. 1830s upright cabinet piano (often towering things, extending up to 7 feet tall.)  Of course for me it's all very much about this young woman, proud of posture and looking us square in the eye as she strikes a key, with (I detect) a glimmer of defiance!

9 3/8" x 8 1/4" x 1 1/2" framed. Under glass, burl maple frame, period/original to it. Portrait in excellent condition. Upper left perimeter edge of frame shows a bit of old surface loss/roughness, as documented--minor and does not at all jump out.
