I really never have seen such a charmer of a painting on a tree conk (fungus) before, and this a quintessentially New England one, too, depicting a terrific little salt box house, the likes of which one sees all around these parts. With incising outlining the house and road alongside it, a nice thick application of paint on the dark gray house and deep green lawn, and a super painterly sky striated with blue and pink and white and cream and yellow. And then a golden halo of a border framing it all, and gold painted half-moon base to stand on. Wonderful.
3" w x 2 5/8" t; base 2 5/8" w x 1 3/8"d. In excellent condition and definitely with quite a bit of age to it; seems early 20th c. to me, perhaps the base was added a little later but I'm not entirely sure.
