A santos possessed with the spirit if I ever saw one! Those unpainted (or once painted but with the paint completely worn away) white glass eyes completely make him for me--so intense, looking absolutely as if having a vision, eyes rolled to the back of his head. And the erosion to his face, nose flattened and pinkish paint worn away in spots revealing the wood underneath, just add to the effect. His armlessness and posture and the shape of the collar of his robe as it is makes him look rather like a bat, too--so perhaps he's in the middle of an internal struggle--to be a demon or a saint?! Quite a thing.
12 7/8" tall. Very much as is--wear and losses as evident, which I think are much of what make him great. There is a split to the wood at the back of one shoulder as documented and maybe he once had an hood back there. All very stable and sturdy now and stands square and steady. There is a hole in the underside where a wooden peg would once have inserted to stand him on a base.
