Existential Feeling Tintype Portrait of a Wide Eyed Baby with Half Hidden Mother

I really really love the expression on the face of this baby--looking as though all at once confronting the world as a whole and the question of life's meaning / facing the void! An intense, wide eyed stare that feels completely true and all encompassing.  And then mother, at left, in partial view,  looking somewhat solicitous but no great help! 

3 1/4" x 2 3/8" and in good antique condition, irregular left edge and clipped left bottom corner.
