Elsie Zimmerman's Nasturtium Plant Analysis School Watercolor, c. 1930s

I found this one in Lancaster County, PA this summer, along with a few other school watercolors (two birds and a color chart) by the same Elsie Zimmerman, listed and sold several weeks ago. This the most refined of the bunch in its way, lovely and delicate feeling, taking care to carefully render and label the parts of a nasturtium on the left side of the page, and then the full plant on the right, complete with a bit of shadowy ink wash that seems to follow its own logic.
