I've gotten really into antique sailor made macrame baskets like this, crafted from fishing twine while out at sea and, from what I understand, typically intended as love tokens to be delivered upon return. Wonderfully sturdy, I think they have a really special feel about them, and I really love the variety of knot work on the flared sides of this one, which, like most one sees, was finished with a hardened varnish or shellac and bears a great rich patina.
7 3/4" in diameter x 2 1/4" tall. Very good antique condition, with just very minor irregularity to the form, all to the good I think.
