Another week, another carved shoe, because I love them in all of their variety, and who can ever have too many shoes? This is quite an old one I believe, early-mid 19th century, with extra long toe and great hand-carved vine design wrapping the sides and heel. It appears to have been stained/painted a very dark brown, which has worn in a a few spots so to see the wood underneath. I guess most likely made to hold a pin cushion, but I am not completely sure; there is a good bit of very old wear and loss (now very smooth, matching the patina on the rest of it) around the opening. Lots of character, great presence, and with well worn soles as if having done a lot of walking!
5 1/4" x 3 7/8" x 7/8". Good antique condition, terrific patina, very sound and not at all fragile, with some very old loss around one side of the opening as evident.
