Curious Painted Relief Carved Viking

I have no idea the story with this guy, but I really like him. He looks like a Viking to me, or at least some sort of Medieval warrior, pretty crudely carved and painted gold,  with a blue painted ground, as if emerging from a long journey at sea! He's definitely got some age, as there is a fair amount of wear to the gold paint, which adds to the feeling that he's seen some battle!

6 5/8" x 3 1/2" x 3/8". There are two holes midway down either side which could be used for mounting.
