Over time, I've acquired (and happily sold!) a few different Coushatta pine needle baskets, but this one, with its dramatically twisting handle, may just be my favorite. The Coushatta are a matrilineal society native to Southwest Louisiana and are renowned for their wonderful baskets made of coiled pine needles and raffia. In addition to the fabulous handle, this one features a lovely little woven raffia detail at the very center of the base surrounded by a coiled ring.
In perfect condition and likely dating to the late 20th century, the basket measures 4" tall x 4" wide with handle; the basket itself (not including handle) measures i3 1/8" in diameter x 1 3/8".
