Charming c. 1875 Folk Art Watercolor of Horse-Drawn Omnibus: Kenmore

Regular price $65.00

I am forever looking for 19th century watercolor drawings in this manner, so immediate and full of life. The carriage here is a horse drawn "omnibus." an early form of "public" transportation, originating as early as the 1830s--here with Kenmore emblazoned across the side of it, perhaps referring to Kenmore Avenue in Chicago, with part of a letter on the reverse side of the watercolor addressed from Chicago to Albany, NY, (to a D. Hale and appearing to relate to the sale of shares of corn.) Vivid color, lovely thing, makes me want to go for a ride!

7 5/8" x 4 7/8", watercolor on lined paper, letter dated 1875 and watercolor from same decade or so, I believe. Good condition, color very strong, unevenness along top edge of paper as evident.
