I hadn't found a sandpaper drawing I loved in a long while, and then a few in a few weeks, this one found in Massachusetts. Of course what immediately sold me on it was the very naively drawn little man and little cow in the foreground--the man with what looks like a walking stick in hand, having a wander. I also really love a landscape that includes a piece of fantasy architecture, here a medieval looking turret rising over the scene, speaking to the passage of time, ruin and resilience, with clusters of leaves springing from its edges Lots of moody trees too, and the requisite tiny sailboat on the water to the right. Just my sort. C. mid 19th century, earlier than later I believe.
In a period, perhaps original frame, as found: 13 1/2" x 11 1/2". Sight 9 5/8" x 7 5/8". All in very good antique condition. The back of the frame was papered over recently it appears, but seems to have wooden backing under the paper. Wired for hanging.
