Whoever created this large wooden scrapbook long ago must have had pretty grand expectations for the arts and crafts projects it would contain, as they put an awfully lot of work into the carving of the cover, and did a very beautiful job, I think! Perhaps they made it to bind the work of a class, or a group of summer campers, or maybe just their own masterpieces. I found it empty, but would certainly love to see it put to use, though I might myself just put a hook on the back of the cover and hang it on the wall.
The piece consists of a front and back cover tied together with a piece of rope. Each cover measures 19" long x 13" tall x 3/8" thick. Very good vintage condition--I'd guess it dates from the 1930s or 40s--with a nice warm patina. There is one thin split in the surface of the wood where the palette is carved; otherwise just minor dings and scrapes here and there.
