A few last 19th century ink and watercolor butterfly drawings today from a portfolio of half a dozen or so I purchased from a favorite dealer in the Hudson River Valley several weeks ago. This beautiful pair are identified at lower left as Red Admirals, and I must say the wings on them, especially the camouflage mottling of the lower wing of the one at top, make me swoon (see detail photos!) Such wondrous creatures, which this watercolor does a lovely job of capturing.
9 1/4" x 7 1/4" and in very good condition.
