I'm continuing to dig out of a stack of paper acquired from a favorite PA paper dealer when I was down for the Allentown show--nice when you have a pile that keeps delighting you as you pull from it, with this stag greeting me square in the eye! Beautifully rendered in graphite and jumping right off the page, as if just startled in the woods and now acutely attentive, determining whether to flee. Feels like both portrait and metaphor.
6 5/8" x 5 1/2", excellent condition. I would guess British, c. mid 19th century, graphite on card.
