This terrific hand-thrown weed vase feels as if it emerged directly from the earth fully formed, rather like a vessel shaped rock! With a great rough texture and surface that varies all the way around, it feels both ancient and decidedly modern, and as much like a sculpture as a functional object. Really a beauty, I think, and the perfect complement to most anything one might display in it. I purchased this piece from the estate sale of a former gallerist and great collector on Newbury Street in Boston that included an endless array of wonderful things!
3 7/8" tall x 4 7/8" widest diameter; 1 3/8" diameter at foot. It is signed on the bottom (I believe it says Dave) and is in very good vintage condition, with just a bit of red wax residue around the lip that I should be able to fully remove. I believe it dates to the 1960s or 70s.
