Gold Painted Mid Century Japanese Iron Owl

A wise feeling mid century gold/bronze painted cast iron owl, made in Japan. There are related examples out there, painted and not, but I can't find an exact match for this one and just think he's good. Fairly heavy but hollow inside--perhaps one could poke a stick of incense through one eye, but feels to me just a good one for perching, on the desk as a paperweight or on high somewhere. 

3" t x 2 7/8" w x 3 3/4" d. Good condition, nice sense of surface wear and age.
