Goat carriages catering to children were quite the rage in the later part of the 19th century, both privately owned by families and as commercial concessions, such as In Central Park, where they were introduced in 1869. I believe that is where this this child with pair of goats and cart stood, and I believe this albumen stereoview dates to right around that year. With this young boy all dressed up and ready to roll, and the nearer goat looking us straight in the eye! Beautiful tonal richness to the image(s), and I love the long view, which makes the boy and goats seem all the more miniature. And with a painterly sort of starkness to it all, enhanced by the square edges and uncentered placement of the photos on the cream mount (with wider border at right.)
6 5/8" x 3 1/8", good condition, general light wear and light smudges/stains to the borders, and just a minor bit of curl to the mount.
