I find this snapshot quite extraordinary. In the foreground, this child with arm raised--in a gesture that feels quite loaded at the moment--commanding the attention of his dog, who stands at keen attention. And with that gesture perfectly echoed by the diagonal of the stairs and rails of the platform in the background, also by the diagonal of the of the bodies of two black men at left who have turned to watch. It feels as though the whole scene was just waiting for this conductor-like child to raise his arm to activate it all together in one focused, fleeting moment. On reverse: Speedway, Washington DC (I believe indicating Potomac Park, aptly near the Washington Monument) and dated 1918.
4 9/16" x 2 3/4" and in good condition.
