Presumably done by a child long ago, I find this watercolor really marvelous, and quite sophisticated feeling, too. I take the scene as an open air market or fair, with all the figures moving along the center aisle drawn in profile, almost all facing in one direction, while all the figures hosting booths (none looking super happy about it) are drawn facing front--as if just hoping some of these walkers will stop to visit them, but feeling pretty lonely/bored/exposed in the meantime (a bit like dealers at an antiques show!) And with a little Punch and Judy style puppet theatre popping up amid the flow. And little girls pushing baby carriages. So full of life, and with this wonderful bleed to the blue/purple inked outlines that makes me think a bit of of Paul Klee.
13 1/8" x 9 3/8", good condition, ink and watercolor on cream drawing/watercolor paper, not at all brittle.
