Black Cat and Dissipating Moon in Pittsburg, 1905 Hand-painted Postcard

Regular price $28.00

It's been a bit since I've found a good old hand-drawn/hand-painted postcard, but this week I found two, and really love them both. This black cat appears to have been painted just in advance of Halloween 1905, and in the ensuing century plus the black paint has alligatored just like on my favorite old folk art doorstops. It's the frowning crescent moon above and accompanying phrase, though, that perhaps speaks most to the humor and sensibilities of its maker, Jim, who signed it at lower right, announcing "I've been dissipating in Pittsburg" (missing its "h")--which makes one wonder exactly what Jim had been up to!

5 7/16" x 3 5/16" and in overall good shape, with postmarks on both front and back, toning to the corners from where it was clearly stored in an album, and wear to the lower right corner.
