I didn't really know what these were when I found then, in Lancaster County, PA, but with their wire and metallic thread decoration they reminded me of antique reliquaries, and of course the Bible being a miniature book, complete with gold edged real paper pages, I was sold. A little research has lead me to understand that these are "Breverl"--miniature devotional talisman of sorts, which, made by nuns to be worn around the neck to protect the owner, which became especially popular in 18th century Bavaria (Germany) and Austria. These three are surely later than that, c. late 19th.early 20th century I would guess, but made in the same manner. And with stick pins still attached to two of them, ready to pin on for protection!
Bible 1 1/4" x 1" x 1/2". Sold as set of three. Wool with wire, metallic thread and bead decoration, all in very good condition. I'll send them in the glass fronted specimen case I found them in.
