This one embodies so many things I love I am tempted to write a much longer essay about it. Included in that are ideas about the spirits/energies of things. I prefer to go out in the world to find things but do buy a bit on Ebay--this crayon box I purchased there, from a seller in Pennsylvania, but in not one of their photos was a picture of the underside of the lid, or of the interior of the box absent the crayons. But, still, (even as I'm not much one for I might describe as woo-woo thinking) I could feel it. (The soft crayoned yellow along the edges of the slide lid on the exterior gave a bit of a clue too, and the wire would around the end of the box as a stop for the slide said someone really used this!) Anyway, when I opened it, pure exuberant color telling the story of its life and use, and what delight.
3 1/2" x 2 1/8" x 5/8". Perfect. 19th century I believe, carved from one piece of wood, with slide lid that fits exactly right and closes tight.
