I will never tire of antique folk art watercolors of flowers--largely painted by women and a lot about close looking, and as was explicitly noted on another watercolor by this same Marian Marcelin that I listed last week, of an iris she "raised herself," these often seem to me to embody several points of pride at once. And I think this is a lovely example, bellflowers I believe. Signed on reverse and dated 1872.
8 3/8" x 5 3/4" and in excellent antique condition.
