I'd love to know what this is! Clearly it was made for a purpose, and surely was part of some larger thing, but I have not been able to figure out what. Something related to spinning wool, perhaps? I purchased it because I thought it was just a beautiful and curious sculptural object that would look great propped or hanging somewhere...or perhaps could be put to use in a new way! The six wooden spokes end in teeth as they meet at the center of the "wheel," forming a gear that still turns, and there must once have been a crank mechanism that this "wheel" connected to.
The wood is in terrific shape, very smooth and with a great patina. The piece measures 14 3/4" in diameter and 6 1/2" deep.
