Beautiful Old Much Played Double Row Hide Tambourine with Painted Sides

Regular price $85.00

It is a bit hard to capture the full beauty of this old tambourine in photos; part of it is holding in the hand--and then shaking it! But hopefully some of it comes across, from the excellent black and gold painted exterior of the wooden fame (with red painted interior), to the staggered double row of brass cymbals, with tears and bends and curled edges that make it look very folky and very well loved, to the beautiful patina on the hide drum (with gold painted wrapped edge, attached to frame with brass studs.  I'm not a tambourine expert, but based on others I've looked at, my guess would be late 19th or so. To my sensibilities, a wonderful  thing to have hanging on the wall, to grab  and play whenever the mood strikes or celebratory occasion arises!

10" in diameter drum, 11 1/2" diameter including bells. 2 1/8" t. Structurally sound and sturdy and with many years of play left in it. A couple of cymbols lost and a few tears in others, all to the good I think.
