At The End of Board with Flags and Drummer, Marvelous Old Snapshot of Carnival Diver

Regular price $75.00

A marvelous photo. I don't usually do image searches on snapshots, but I wondered if I might turn up something to help me identify where this was taken so I did, and instead turned up a snapshot in the collection of the St. Louis Art Museum, clearly of the same diver standing on the same platform, and surely from the same roll of film as this one! And nice that that photo was a gift to the museum from my good friend and major collector of vernacular photography John Foster. I have to say though that I like this photo even better:) With a drummer just below our diver at a diagonal, and with the line of the rope perfectly drawing the connection between them as if for emphasis, and then this beautiful line of flags draped and waving at the opposite angle. And the top of the heads of a couple of spectators in the immediate foreground. Terrific unusual point of view, with just a partial glimpse at the diving pool below around which everything hinges (but which seems none too inviting!)

5 5/16 x 3 1/4 and in good condition, very crisp and clear, c. 1920s.
