I've become really enamored of all sorts of schoolgirl samplers--needlework alphabet samplers, sure, but more so the less common to find woven and folded paper samplers, and darning samplers, and crochet samplers like this one. And this little humbly sewn together book, composed of richly colored cut cotton cloth and filled with dozens of little crocheted bits, is about the most charming thing I can imagine, just teeming with the love and care of many many hard-trying hours invested in it. I'm sure there have been some samples lost over the years, and a few are now held on with old pins rather than stitches, but I think it's pretty perfect just as it is. It would be easy to take apart to frame some of the pages, but I might try to find a special little book stand to display it on, open to a favorite spread, just as it is.
Early 20th century I'd think. Closed it measures 4 1/2" w x 6 3/4" t x 3/4" deep. Open 8 1/8" across. Overall in very good condition--clean and bright, with very minor staining. I've included tons of pictures as I think it is so lovely!
