I continue to grab these when I come across them--which is increasingly rarely it seems--as I continue to find them such evocative things, including for literally carrying the facial imprints of Odd Fellows long gone into the present and future. I also like that the faces on these antique homemade ones often look quite goofy-- this one, to me, a bit as if just having feasted and now wearing a happy, satiated smile! With red painted lips and cheeks, black brows, and dark blue eyes— all of which show more when put up against one's own face. The original elastic is still attached so one can do just that.
7 1/2" tall x 3 5/8" d; 6 1/4" measured straight across the back. Overall good condition for its age - late 19th/early 20th c I believe, with a couple of tears to the peach painted metal trim along the top edge, and a bit of damage to the mesh along the bottom edge of the chin, all as documented, making one want to be a little gentle with it.
