Surely this was cut down many years ago from a longer sign, which is a bit sad, but also makes it much more manageable (it's over 2 feet long as is) and of course I love the resulting concision of "NOT," lending itself to functioning as a comment on all sorts of contexts and situations. And what a beauty of an object, too, with these beautifully bold hand-painted black capital letters against white painted ground, and a gorgeously weathered surface now, many times better in person. 19th century I believe.
26 7/8" l x 11 5/8" t x 7/8" thick, solid pine. Very good, beautifully aged condition, with plenty of wear and some surface scratches, all to the good I think; very sturdy and solid, not chipping, no issues. Color is best in details.
