A Pennsylvania German tramp art frame, I presume, feeling to me to nod a bit to Black Forest--or at least those corner flourishes make me think of Black Forest cuckoo clocks, and the carved disks at the corners of hex stars, too. Very much the right frame for a portrait of one's mother or grandmother or most beloved-- and feeling as if ready to carry them to Heaven, if they're not there already!
10 3/8" t x 8 1/2" w. Frame sight: 3 1/4" x 2". Excellent condition, very early 20th c. I believe. With glass, which slides out via the top back of the frame.
