I find the hand-painted black against cream "Compositio" lettering on the front of this antique tin just about as good as it gets; pure yum! I assume this was an apothecary tin, holding a mixture of some sort, but am not entirely certain. There is some text written on the inside of the lid, which looks to read 10 cents each followed with an 8.5 which I might guess meant ounces or grams per unit. And a date: November 8, 189_, the exact year faded by 1890s it looks to me.
5 1/4" t x 4 3/8" in diameter. Structurally excellent condition; lid fits tight and is easily opened. Some paint loss to the brown paint covering the body of the tin, as pictured, which I think just makes it better.
