Antique Folk Art Monkey Head Carving, Stopper or Cane Top?

Regular price $48.00

The second of two monkeys this week, at least I believe it is the head of a monkey depicted on this carved piece, which I purchased from a dealer in Maine, who pulled it out of an old Maine estate. I love the face, especially the soulful eyes, and the very dark old dry wood patina. I think most likely it was some sort of stopper or handle, perhaps the topper on a cane? 19th c. I believe.

4 1/4” t x 1 1/8” w x 1 3/4” d and in very good condition, with one small patch of roughness along the lower lip, minor. It does not stand up on its own.
