I'm not in the least religious, but I find myself attracted to all sorts of religious objects, and this little doll feels pretty miraculous to me. The paper tag pinned to her dress is partially torn, but certainly read First Communion, and perhaps _ in Venezia (Venice) after that? So perhaps she was made as a souvenir doll, and an incredibly constructed one in any case, with carefully cut paper for her hands, one of which wraps around a fabric candle, the other around what I have to think is a brown paper Bible. And then this hand-embroidered face encircled with lace trimmed veil, and best of all these marvelous little bowed leather shoes, with tiny hand-sewn seams down the sole and up the back. I think she's quite angelic, and would be temped to build a little shrine around her!
5 7/8" t and overall in very good shape, with some loss to the fabric of her veil, visible on the backside, but otherwise quite sound and not especially fragile.
