I think this is an incredible photograph, specifically, and especially as a portrait of the American Family c. 1950s. The mother is crocheting and eying her daughter, the father is reading (and I might guess holding a cigarette just out of view) and the daughter is flying a toy plane, imagining the future! On the mantle, a collection of several photographs, a "Wilson Walkie" elephant, an array of figurines, and very c. 1940s-50s stereotypical Native American and African American dolls at either end That airplane really seems a perfect metaphor for wanting to escape this living room, its confine, and the 50s in general! Quite an image.
4 5/8" x 3 1/2" and in good condition.
