Alert and Poised to Pounce, with Twitching Ear, Folk Carving Of Black and Brown Dog

Regular price $75.00

This carved dog--meant to be a Doberman I assume, though the shape of the head is a bit off--came out of the same collection as the antique clothes pin shaped doll and small carved pine figure also listed today--a collection of folk objects carefully and thoughtfully built by a couple in Michigan over many years with tastes aligning very much with my own. I purchased them from an Ohio based dealer at the Rhinebeck show, and would have scooped up everything he had acquired from their collection if I could have. Though certainly not as old as the carved figures, I think this dog shares a full of life spirit with them and an especially wonderful face. And I really like the way his one flopped ear seems at odds with the very poised and at-the-ready posture of the rest of him. Carved of wood, in black and brown paint, with a bit of white paint for the eyes.

4 1/4" l x 3 3/8" t x 1 1/4" w. Good condition, with a little paint wear here and there, c. 1940s or so I would guess.
