I found this one in Maine this week, much to my joy, really a great one I think. All carved of one piece of wood with tight slide opening-- constructed just like spruce gum box, and it seems quite possible it is (including for being found in inland Maine), though it's fairly uncommon to see one of those entirely paint decorated rather that decorated through carving, so I'm not sure. Whatever the case, great thing, and great paint!, with those finely painted orange lines detailing the covers and spine really doing it for me against the green, and then the gold and orange shadow lettering of ALBUM against black. Smart looking and substantial, with enough room inside for a secret stash of something/s.
6 3/8" t x 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" . General wear and scattered surface scratches as pictured, which feel right to it. Very sound and sturdy, slide lid opens with a little pressure and stays tightly closed. Late 19th/early 20th century I believe.
