I once had a set of San José Mission pottery plates of this same design, and now keep an eye out as I think they're just lovely, and feel very 1940s California. Pretty on the counter, good on the table, or great as a favorite for cereal or ice cream!
The San Jose mission was founded in 1797 by the Franciscan order--the 14th Spanish mission established in California--and, consisting of over 100 adobe buildings is the namesake of the Mission San José district of Fremont.
