I might guess there was one a second carving of this man's wife facing in the opposite direction that hung beside it, together forming almost a full circle, but I don't know that for sure--perhaps she was anticipated but never arrived! In any case, what a charmer he is, looking handsome and focused in his jacket and tie, and with one large ear open as if just waiting to hear what we have to say! When I first saw him I immediately associated the black painted plaque he is mounted to as looking like a crescent moon, and so like to think of him as staring out at the the stars! Signed and dated 1917 on the reverse.
15 1/4" t x 5 1/2" w and in very good condition, with a hole near the top for hanging from a nail.
