Collector/dealer Pat Hatch, well known for her extraordinary black doll collection, has been selling some small things at an antiques shop I heavily frequent in Maine; I scooped up several pieces from her this week, including this kitty. The presence and substance of it doesn't fully come across in photos, but it is old, and heavy, with the rusty red oil cloth having almost the feel of rubber, and the surface crackled all over. What especially makes it for me is what I take for a double tail--one wrapped around its front, the other around its back! Or perhaps out front, resting on its belly, is a very thin front leg/arm, poised to give a shake! Such a bright eyed and friendly looking creature!
8 13/16" x 5 1/8" and heavy. Photos do no justice--the oil cloth is hardened and crackled, appearing almost like rubber--great color, great surface, great presence. All seems tight, no holes, very sturdy and sound.
