SOLD Wonderful Antique Folk Art Toy Horse on Perfect Wire Stand, As Found

Regular price $175.00

I purchased this one from a dealer in upstate NY near Albany who always has wonderful things, and from whom I also purchased the Mi'kmaq basketry pin cushion listed today. I paid a good bit for it, but it's just about the most charming toy horse I've ever seen, and it was well beyond my capacities to walk away. Fabulous, perfectly aged old creamy white paint with brown spots all over, and with a scrap of what looks like much worn and faded denim across its back, I presume a remnant of what was once a larger saddle. Rope reins, rope tail, and four legs dangling from heavy wire loops--feels full of life and ready to gallop! I am not certain if the wire base is original to it or added at a somewhat later date, but if the later I think a good long time ago, and it feels completely of a piece with the horse, the mount it was meant to ride on. Wonderful.

6" t on stand. Horse itself 4 3/16" l x 5" t. Base of wire stand 4" d. Wear and age all over, very very much to the good, I'd say a perfect patina. Stable and sound and sturdy on its base. 19th century American I believe.
