Love. This Inuit carved stone polar bear, lying flat on its belly, goes beyond representing the animal to, I think, represent a whole state of being! (Which also feels like the essence of hibernation, which I myself am especially disposed toward right now:)) I love too that its two front legs and head extending forward evince a hand laid flat, and also make me think of the incoming tide, creeping toward shore. Wonderfully matter of fact, and also wonderfully evocative.
6 9/16" x 3 5/8" x 1". Very good condition. With what I believe is a disc number incised on the underside (omitting the E, I presume): 8-00110. C. 1970s I would guess, and based on the 8 (disc numbers corresponding to Inuit regions of Canada), I presume from the Nunavik region, northern Quebec.
