SOLD Lovely (and Usable) Booklet of Nicholson's Peerless Japanese Transparent Watercolors

Regular price $50.00

This is really lovely--a booklet of Nicholson's "Japanese Transparent Watercolors" manufactured by Peerless Color Laboratories, Rochester, NY--copyright 1902, this booklet produced in 1937. These were specifically produced "for the artistic tinting of photographs, lantern slides, Bromide enlargements, half-tone prints and process work of all kinds..." but as numerous pages of description and instruction at the beginning of the booklet explains, lend themselves to wide application. I love the design of the booklet, and the handiness of these inserted sheets of useable color, and the rather magical feeling of wetting the front of the sheet to discover the color produced instead matches the quite different tone shown on the reverse. And there is a long list of other colors in the series included among the pages, with great names like "moon yellow" and "distant tree green."

8 1/16" x 3 9/16". 14 of 15 paint samples present and in very good condition, with the color on the reverse side of each showing the actual color produced (I tested one.). With several pages of text up front, and then each sample mounted to a page with text opposite and behind it. With nice color testing along the right corder of the interior back cover.
